Oneida Nation of the Thames sits just southwest of London — one of five Haudenosaunee communities in Ontario, alongside Six Nations near Brantford, Tyendinaga near Kingston, Akwesasne near Cornwall and Wahta near Bracebridge.
The Oneida are one of the six nations of the Haudenosaunee Confederacy. The community relocated to the Thames valley in the 1840s after purchasing the land directly.
Six Nations of the Grand River is further east, near Brantford — about 25 kilometres southwest of Hamilton, and demographically the largest First Nations reserve in Canada with over 27,000 members. That’s where Grand River Enterprises, the country’s largest Indigenous tobacco manufacturer, operates.
