Elite is one of the widest ranges in the native lineup, with four strengths rather than the usual two, and it sits at $47.50 a carton rather than $42.

The four are Elite Full Flavour, Elite Light, Elite Ultra Lights and Elite Charcoal. The Charcoal is the one worth explaining: a charcoal filter rather than the standard cellulose acetate, which takes some of the edge off the draw without reducing it to an ultra light. It tastes cleaner than the strength alone would suggest.

The Ultra Lights are the mildest thing in the Elite range and among the mildest cartons on the site generally, which makes Elite a useful brand to stay within if you're stepping down gradually rather than switching outright.
