Buying cigarettes online in Canada isn’t complicated, but the market has a lot of turnover. Shops appear, undercut everyone, and disappear — sometimes with orders outstanding.
This covers what to check before you order anywhere, what a carton should actually cost, and how to tell a working business from a risk.
What a carton should cost
Price is the fastest way to sort legitimate from implausible.

Retail prices are mostly tax. Federal excise duty is $38.92 per carton nationwide, and provincial tobacco tax adds between $36.95 in Ontario and $80.00 in Nunavut. Sales tax goes on top of both.
Native cigarettes are made at licensed First Nations facilities and sold under Indigenous tobacco rights, outside the same provincial tax structure. That’s the entire reason for the gap — not cheaper tobacco.
If a site advertises international brands like Marlboro or Davidoff at native prices, something is wrong. Those are taxed products; nobody sells them at $42.

Six things to check before ordering
1. Are the prices actually visible?
You should be able to see a carton price without adding to cart or creating an account. Anywhere hiding prices behind a signup is collecting your details before telling you the cost.
2. Is there a real contact method?
A monitored email address at minimum. A contact form alone tells you nothing — send a question before you order and see whether anyone answers.
3. Is shipping stated clearly?
Cost, timeframe, and what happens if a package goes missing. Vague shipping terms are where most complaints start.
4. Is there age verification?
Any Canadian tobacco retailer should be checking.
5. What are the payment options?
Interac e-Transfer is standard in this market because card processors often decline tobacco. That’s normal. What isn’t normal is a site accepting only irreversible payment methods with no alternative.
6. How long has it been operating?
Newer isn’t automatically worse, but longevity in this market means something. Which brings us to the thing worth knowing.
Shops in this market do disappear
Dip Kings was a well-regarded Canadian retailer selling smokeless tobacco, snus, nicotine pouches and cigars. In 2024 it went offline with no announcement. Customers found out when the site stopped loading.
Unused discount codes became worthless. Orders in transit had no support channel. Reddit threads from that period are full of people asking each other what had happened, and no explanation was ever published.
The likely cause was Health Canada’s restrictions on nicotine pouches, which moved them behind pharmacy counters and limited flavours — a serious problem for a retailer built around that category. Several others in the same space vanished over the same period.

What’s the cheapest way to buy cigarettes online in Canada?
Rollies — pre-rolled cigarettes in bags of 200 — work out cheapest per cigarette, around 13.5 cents against 21 cents for a $42 carton. Buying cartons at volume is next.
Why are cigarettes so much cheaper online?
Native cigarettes aren’t subject to the same provincial tobacco tax as retail brands, and the supply chain skips national distributors and retail markup. On an Ontario carton that’s $75.87 in tax alone.
How long does delivery usually take?
One to three days is typical for most of Canada. Northern and remote addresses take longer.
Can I buy Marlboro or Du Maurier online?
Some retailers carry Marlboro. Most international brands aren’t distributed in Canada, and Du Maurier is sold through the mainstream retail chain at mainstream prices.
What happens if a site closes after I order?
Usually nothing good — there’s rarely a support channel left. It’s the main argument for a small first order with any retailer you haven’t used.
