What L&M is
An American brand launched in 1953 by Liggett & Myers, now owned by Philip Morris International. It built its position as a mid-price cigarette — not a premium brand, not a discount one — with a straightforward American blend.
It sells in enormous volume across Europe, and it’s a staple in much of Eastern Europe and the Middle East. In Canada it has never had meaningful distribution.
Availability in Canada
Limited. Canadian shelf space is dominated by Imperial Tobacco Canada, JTI and Rothmans, and L&M isn’t part of that mix in any consistent way. Where it appears, it’s usually specialist import stock at import prices.
That matters because Canadian tobacco pricing is punishing for anything imported. Federal excise duty runs $38.92 per carton, and provincial tobacco tax adds between $36.95 and $80 on top.
