What Basic is
An American brand launched by Philip Morris in the 1980s as a value option — positioned on price rather than character, aimed at smokers trading down from premium brands. It sells in the United States and has never been distributed in Canada.

Rollies are the cheapest cigarettes we sell — about 13.5 cents each against 21 cents for a $42 carton. Available in Canadian Light, Canadian Ultra Light, Canadian Menthol, Canadian Classics Silver, Putter’s Light, Full Flavour and Light.
Why native brands cost less
A carton of any mainstream brand in Canadian retail runs $110 to $160. Between $76 and $119 of that is federal excise duty and provincial tobacco tax.
Native cigarettes are manufactured at licensed First Nations facilities and sold under Indigenous tobacco rights, outside the same provincial tax structure. That, plus no national distributor and no retail markup, is the whole difference.
