The Story Behind Matilde Cigars

Our founder, Jose Seijas, began his journey with cigars in 1974 when he joined Consolidated Cigar Corporation as the head of their Industrial Engineering department. He was responsible for overseeing the sorting, selection, and stripping of tobacco – an experience that would shape his passion for cigars. After being transferred to La Compania Insular Tabacalera in Las Palmas de Gran Canaria, Jose immersed himself in every aspect of cigar manufacturing. He eventually became VP of Operations and Master Blender at Tabacalera de Garcia in La Romana before retiring in 2011. During his time there, he was responsible for creating blends such as Seijas Signature (Cigar Aficionado’s Top 25), Mi Dominicana by Jose Seijas (Cigar Aficionado’s Top 25), Montecristo, Romeo & Julieta, Vega Fina, H.Upmann, Onyx, Trinidad, Don Diego and many more.
